I have seen what I have heard called a "starter garter" on an FL250 before. Here is a pic of one installed on a modified odyssey motor that belongs to oldmanody. The ring looks to be about 3/8" thick and goes around the base of the pull start assembly to reinforce the pull starter housing. As many of you have experienced, the metal Honda used was too light to stand up to YEARS of pullstart abuse in a high compression motor. The ring can be seen on the right side of the picture.
The following pictures are my attempt at recreating this ring. I will either cast the rings in aluminum or have them cut on a CNC plasma cutter.
Here is the pull start assembly. I have "built" the model of what I want out of modelers' clay.
A couple more pics showing the model on the starter housing.
This is the kit I am using to make the ring. Its a cool kit you can use to make almost any small plastic parts with.
Here I have built a clay dam to hold the mold. I took the clay that was on the starter housing off and put it in the middle of the dam. I mixed the molding making compound and poured it into the mold.
Here is the mold ready to accept the casting resin.
Here is the casting resin. Mix it 1:1. to get my measurements right I weighed the mixture on a small digital scale thats accurate to 0.2 ounces.
