CV center axle construction
Here is what the new axle assembly looks like put together. The width is about 60" from hub to hub.
Here is a pic of the center axle section in the lathe. The axle was cut about 3" into the thickest part of the axle. Then several steps were machined into the axle surface so the intermediate shaft could be pressed in place then welded.
Here you can see the intermediate shaft welded onto the modified stock FL250 axle. This will allow the use of the Subaru intermediate shaft, and bearing, which will add strength to the axle assembly by taking some of the load off the stock FL250 gearbox.
Here is a pic of the right side of the axle. The CV cup was machined and welded onto a modified stock FL250 rear hub. I did this so the axle assembly could be removed from the gear box.
Here is the center axle assembly together. The modified CV is on the right. The stock Subaru CV will slip over the intermediate shaft on the left, and is held on by a roll pin.
Here is the center assembly mounted in the gearbox. Looks like this just might work!!!
