Beadlock installation for stock wheels
I started with a fairly beatup stock front wheel
Then I straightened the rim bead the best that I could.
This is the inner locking ring installed on the wheel. The three carraige bolts level and center the ring in the wheel for easy alignment. Once I had the ring where I wanted it I just welded it in place with the mig welder.
As you can see I messed up and welded the inner ring in upside down. The backs of the inserts were about 3 mm above the inner ring....DOH.
On the next wheel I did (I forgot to get pics of it) I completly cut the lip off of the bead, and welded the ring on. This pic shows the outer lip still in place. If you do this mod you want to remove the outer lip. I found that by getting rid of it you are able to get a better weld between the wheel and the inner ring.
This is how the wheel with the bealock and tire in place looks. The beadlock ring does add some weight to the wheel, but if you ride in rocky or sany conditions where the tire can be knocked off the rim, or sand can get between the lip of the rim and the tire and "push" the tire off the bead, beadlocks can save you a long walk back to camp. I got the beadlocks rings at mrt-wheels.com They have decent prices, and good customer support.
