Pilot Airbox Modification
Using a 2" angled PVC adapter, I marked and cut a hole in the airbox lid making sure the location I put the fitting would not allow it to contact the frame when the airbox lid was installed on the airbox.
I used 2-1/4" Shop-vac hose for the new intake tubing. Although the tubing is 2-1/4" tubing the inner diameter is right at 2" Because of this I had to heat the hose in order to get it to stretch over the new fitting and the original fitting. I used a propane torch, but a heat gun or hair dryer should work too. The fit was tight, but to ensure a good seal at the hose I clamped it with a hose clamp when the hose was still hot.
Here you can see both tubes in place. The new location is just in front of the factory location and offset slightly to one side.
At this point I still have not decided how to route the new intake tubing.
Here is a picture with the tubing routed to where I wanted it, and with dual uni filter air filters, with outerwears in place. Using this setup there is a lot lower chance of passing dirt or sand into the engine, and the main filter needs cleaning a lot less often.
